And 'SOH' the blog journey begins - The Beginning of the Business

2017 was a year of big change in my life, it was the year my husband and I found out we were expecting our first baby. In November 2017 my life changed for the better (after a very long, exhausting and complicated labour, which I wouldn't wish upon anyone!), we welcomed our daughter Sienna Grace.

Fast forward to August 2018 and I was facing the reality of maternity leave coming to an end and the looming prospect of returning back to work. The idea of commuting into London every day to a job that I wasn't hugely passionate about, and leaving our little darling at nursery for long days just didn't appeal at all, but like most of us, there were bills to be paid, and we needed additional income.

Juggling home & work life was (and still is!) a challenge in itself, but something was missing. I knew that I needed to do something I had a passion for to make the hours I wasn't with Sienna worthwhile and enjoyable.

For a long time, I've loved everything about Interior Design - from browsing furniture stores, to building Pinterest boards of my favourite interior images, to offering advice to friends and family on their own homes, and to picking paints, furniture & soft furnishings whilst renovating our own property. Having returned to city work on a part-time basis, I wanted to really give Interior Design a go, and give myself the opportunity to use my creative skills more (because let's face it, how creative can you be in the financial industry!?)

I started looking into Interior Design courses online which I could do whilst doing everything else (call me crazy), and I came across the IDBS (Interior Design Business School) course that Jo Chrobak runs. It was a perfect mix of the practical side of Interior Design along with teaching you how to successfully set up your own business. I could do it all online and complete the course content and homework in my own time. Perfect.

Whilst celebrating the beginning of the New Year with family in Berlin, I decided that 2019 was going to me my year and a year for big change. Whilst completing the IDBS course, I created a logo, set up my website, and officially registered SOH Interiors as a UK trademarked company.

This is the first post for my new blog, and I hope you'll continue to enjoy the ride with me! For future posts I plan to cover Interior Top Tips and How-To's, share my favourite picks from Interior ranges, Interior trends I'm loving, and updates on SOH Interiors, so please do subscribe if you're keen to learn more!

There's a lovely line from Walt Disney who said, "If you can dream it, you can do it." And that's what I'm hopefully going to do. For those of you reading this, I urge you to do the same!

~ Love always
